Gift Shop Questions

August 31st, 2007 · No Comments

Hi Everyone,
I’m going to be opening up my gift shop soon which is in my garage,
and I have a few questions I’m hoping someone can help me with.
1. What kind of hours does everyone keep for a shop in your home? I
also work at home as a medical transcriptionist during the day so I
thought of hours kind of like 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. - trying to get
people who work time to visit and me a few hours to work
uninterrupted. What do you think?
2. I have a neighbor who does bridal gowns in her home and she told
me that she found that no matter what kind of hours she was open
people wanted to come at all hours. Any tips?
3. What kind of stock do I need to build up since I have no idea
what people may want or how many will visit my gift shop?
4. I made up a flyer for my local area, but not sure how to get it
to my neighborhood. I tried searching the internet for a place where
I could put in my address and get names and addresses of my neighbors
so I could send out the flyer in the mail. I am going to put flyers
up at local businesses, but wanted to get the message out to my
specific neighborhood. Any suggestions?
Thanks much,
Brenda G, IN

I don’t know how make you own would go over, but I sure have seen people crowded
around the fill-your-own container bins! If you have a few different
kinds/colors/scents in buckets or whatever, let them fill a tube or bag or
whatever with whatever they want for a set price, based on the container. People
get a feeling for having made something just by making colored layers or mixing
scents.
My 2 cents…

Hi Gang,
I will be doing a fair next month. I was thinking of adding “Make your own
bath salts”, not knowing if it will go over or not. This is what i would like
to do.
